Seems like Pallavi Sharda has now thoroughly cemented her career in Hollywood as she has made quite a stir with her latest movie, ‘Wedding Seasons’ (2022) on Netflix. Born and raised in Australia, Sharda came to India to pursue her acting career and surprisingly within a few years, she worked in several notable projects like ‘My Name Is Khan’ (2010), ‘Heroine’ (2012), ‘Besharam’ (2013), ‘Hawaizaada’ (2015), ‘Begun Jaan’ (2017), etc. and for that, she didn’t have to go too far to get the character of Asha in ‘Wedding Seasons’.
Recently, Pallavi had an intriguing interview with Variety about her long journey in Bollywood and talked about her experiences and shared, “When I read the script, I just thought, ‘I know this story’.”
Pallavi is also quite popular in Australia too as she has done numerous TV shows like ‘Pulse’ (2017), ‘Les Norton’ (2019), ‘Beecham House’ (2019), ‘The Twelve’ (2022) and many more. She kept sharing, “I know this woman. I have friends that are this woman. I have family who grew up in Jersey, like a lot of my cousins are from this part of the world. And my grandparents migrated to the US in the ’80s. All of my maternal cousins are Indian Americans.”
While chatting with Sharda, when the interviewer, Marc Malkin, asked her about Indian parents’ logic about marriage and their huge concern for their children, she said, “It’s not just a South Asian thing. Every parent is concerned about the future of their children and their happiness. And I think that’s the whole point. It’s about them wanting to see my character happy.”
While sharing her journey to become an actor, Pallavi said that she was about 3 years old when she got inspired by Bollywood female characters, which made her feel like magical goddesses playing on the screen and these are literally opposite from her native Melbourne suburban life. It prompted her to come to India and work in Bollywood.
Though Pallavi came to India, seems like she had a quite hard journey as she shared that she was about 20 years old and had no idea about India’s public transportation and also had limited money and for that sometimes she had to walk far distances from her hotel to her destination. She also talked about her first audition, which was about a commercial for a mouth freshner brand. While reminiscing the time, she seemed quite excited as she said there were hundreds of people for the audition and she felt lucky that she managed to bag those roles despite the competition.
At last, she was asked about any sequel for ‘Wedding Seasons’ and in response she gave a quirky answer and said, “There is not a complete story without the actual wedding is all I will say. We joked about it on set. We story-boarded it in our minds. Let’s put it out there. I could not imagine anything more incredible than getting together with that team again.”
