It’s quite upsetting to know that one of the legendary stars of this time once gave a copied film that we were unaware of all these three decades. Yes it’s about Amitabh Bachchan we are talking about. Back in the late ’80s, Bachchan was struggling in his life because of the Bofors scandal. Although he was exonerated of all charges, it caused him a huge damage in his political and acting career.

Due to this lawsuit, Bachchan even lost a massive number of fans. This is quite awful to know at this time, when not only in India, but the whole world knows him for his legendary work, the star had to face such an incident in his life.

But guess how the ‘Sholay’ star regained his reputation? That time writer Javed Akhtar came up with an idea and advised him to work on a positive storyline to retrieve the situation and the helpless star instantly agreed to this. That’s what we learnt from director Tinnu Anand recently.

The film ‘Main Azaad Hoon’ (1989) is written by Akhtar and directed by Anand. Although it did not do well at the box office, it helped Bachchan repair his reputation. But the shocking news that we got to know from Tinnu Ji is that the film is a copied version of two Hollywood films, ‘Meet John Doe’ (1941) and ‘Network’ (1976). “We really thought we were working on an original idea by Javed,” Anand shared to Radio Nasha.

Tinnu Anand, who is also famous as a supporting actor, claimed that even the ‘Shahenshah’ star did not know about this copied version. They just blindly trusted Akhtar. Later when the opposition party released ‘Meet John Doe’ on the Doordarshan channel, that’s when they got to know about the plagiarism. Anand said, “Network and this was the same story but Javed didn’t want us to watch that film. He wanted to show that he had written the original story even though it wasn’t an original story.”

While feeling down at the interview, Tinnu said, “I would have liked to see ‘Network’. I would have liked to see ‘Meet John Doe’ and compare our script to theirs. Our script was superior but it was important to watch the original.”
