Why is ‘Zinda Banda’, the first song from Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, so awful?

After ‘Pathaan’ (2023) emerged as an all-time blockbuster, Shah Rukh Khan fans are eager and have been hoping for something big from his upcoming film ‘Jawan’.

But unfortunately, it seems like ‘Jawan’ might not meet all the expectations. Today, the makers finally released the first song “Zinda Banda” and it’s very shockingly and awfully composed. The lyrics of the song are so terrible that it’s hard to understand the meaning.

We had a lot of expectations from Anirudh as he has previously given chartbusters like “Why This Kolaveri Di?”, “Halimithi Habibo”, “Once Upon A Time”, “Aalaporaan Thamizhan”, “Singappenney”, “Enna Sona”, “2.0”, “Vaathi Coming”, “Beast”, “Naan Pakkatha Kaanom”, “Vadhandhi Varnam”, etc.

With “Zinda Banda”, he disappoints big time with his composition. The song is bland and lacks this chartbuster stamp.

Although the opening female voice of Mangli (Satyavathi Rathod), where she sings “Dil Nachda Re/ Dil Nachada/ Khulke Thirakne Se/ Bachda”, is very exciting to hear, the later part sung by Anirudh makes the excitement drop instantly. All the keyboard work, synchronisation and rhythm are programmed by him and it’s shocking to get to hear such a hideous song with no repeat value.

Despite being mounted on such a huge scale with so many dancers, the track does not click. Maybe in the narrative, its importance will be seen.

There is no denying that Bollywood music has been deteriorating. Being a big name in Tamil cinema, Anirudh should have worked harder on this composition as it has Shah Rukh Khan in it.

As ‘Jawan’ is the first Pan-Indian film of Shah Rukh Khan, there’s a lot of eagerness among fans to watch his chemistry with South stars like Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Priyamani and Yogi Babu.

As it’s also the first collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and director Atlee, we hope to get to watch something different this time, other than the mainstream Bollywood films.
