In today’s time, Karan Johar is easily on the list of the desired directors of every actor. His production house, Dharma Productions isn’t just a production house but a brand in itself. But this hasn’t happened overnight. It is only after a string of hit films like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998), ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ (2001), Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ (2006), ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ (2003), ‘Dostana’ (2008), and ‘My Name Is Khan’ (2010) followed by many more movies that it became a brand of its type.
But in his initial years, Karan Johar had to toil it out to get the casting sorted. The role of Aman in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ was refused by everyone and it was only after everyone refused, Salman Khan agreed to do the movie for Karan because he was fond of Karan’s father.
Karan Johar had once in this context unleashed his anger and sadness regarding Chandrachur Singh’s behaviour towards him. Karan had revealed and in a very funny way that one day, Chandrachur asked Karan to narrate his script to him at his house at ‘Seven Bunglows’.
To this, Karan Johar, who has been a rich boy of South Mumbai failed to understand that ‘Seven Bunglows’ is actually an area in Mumbai. Instead, Karan thought that Chandrachur was asking him to come to one of the 7 bungalows owned by him. Laughing about the whole situation on National TV earlier, he also added that after he reached Chandrachur’s house, the latter refused to do the movie even before hearing the script. This irked Karan back then and said that his only problem was the fact that his 2 hours of traveling time could have been saved if Chandrachur refused him over phone itself. But the highlight of this incident is Karan getting the concept of ‘Seven Bunglows’ totally wrong!
But what has been discovered is the fact that this wasn’t the first time Karan Johar has made an error in judging an area of Mumbai. On Kapil Sharma’s show, Karan narrated about his first offer which he had got from producer, Anand Mahendroo for a TV serial titled, ‘Indradhanush’ when he was 15 years old. Karan’s mother, Hiroo Johar had received a call from Anand who asked her to send Karan to ‘Four Bunglows’ for audition. When Karan spoke to Anand to confirm the location, Karan upon hearing ‘Four Bunglows’ from Anand asked him the same thing then which he asked Chandrachur many years later. ‘Which one out of the four bunglows?’
Just like ‘Seven Bungalows’, ‘Four Bungalows’ is another area in Mumbai but Karan Johar who was blessed with the rich lifestyle of South Mumbai had no idea about areas beyond South Mumbai. It was only then that Karan realized how he has made the same mistake again. After hearing this, one would say it isn’t a fault not to know something, but the whole matter that this funny incident happened with Karan twice is something which is surely amusing and especially when he has always been a ‘Bombay Kid’.
