Vidya Balan is not one of those actresses who is a part of the rat race in Bollywood. Be it impressing the audience with her fabulous acting skills to picking some really interesting movies, or rather ‘bold’ as many would call as not many will have the guts to do the movie. But Vidya has made her mark in Bollywood with some amazing performances already. For her, ‘The Dirty Picture’ was the one that changed her life. Apart from that, she has done justice to the roles she has played in movies like ‘Tumhari Sulu’, ‘Ishqiya’, ‘Kahaani’, ‘Kahaani 2’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ and many more. In ‘Tumhari Sulu’ (2017), she played a housewife who turned into a radio jockey as she started working. The movie was a successful one and people liked it.
And now, she is all set to play the role of the ‘mathematics genius’, Shakuntala Devi in her next. The film will be produced by Abundantia Entertainment, led-by Vikram Malhotra.
Shakuntala Devi, the mathematical wizard was known for her amazing skill when it comes to making really swift calculations. Shakuntala’s genius was first discovered at the age of 5, when she solved a math problem for 18 years old students. Though she never received any formal education, her talent for numbers also earned her a place in the 1982 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records.
The film will be helmed by Anu Menon, director of movies like ‘London, Paris, New York’ and the much-talked about Amazon Prime Original, ‘Four More Shots Please’!
While talking about the movie, a jubilant Vidya Balan explains, “I am extremely excited to play the human computer, Shakuntala Devi, on the big screen. She was truly someone who embraced her individuality, had a strong feminist voice and braved many a naysayer to reach the pinnacle of success. But what truly fascinates me is that you wouldn’t normally associate a fun person with Math and she completely turns that perception on her head. I am thrilled that Vikram, who I’ve worked with on ‘Kahaani’, and his team are producing the film. Vikram (Malhotra), Anu (Menon) and I are proud to bring to life the story of one of the most inspiring women of this country. How incredible that ‘The Math Genius’, ‘The Human Computer’, was a small-town Indian girl, who took the world by storm.”
The movie is set for a release around summer 2020. Sounds really exciting!
