It’s the age of reboots and sequels and several iconic films have already been remade. Thus, how come the classic flim ‘Zorro’ cannot have a remake again?
The ‘Zorro’ franchise has already had four films such as ‘The Mark Of Zorro’ in 1940, ‘Zorro’ in 1975, ‘The Mask Of Zorro’ in 1998, then ‘The Legend Of Zorro’ in 2005. The main lead character, Don Diego de la Vega has been portrayed by various actors, but Antonio Banderas is the most loved one among fans as Zorro.
Antonio has portrayed the role twice in ‘The Mast Of Zorro’ and in ‘The Legend Of Zorro’. The first film features the original Zorro, Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins), escaping from prison to find his long-lost daughter, Elena Montero (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and avenge the death of his wife at the hands of the corrupt governor Don Rafael Montero (Stuart Wilson). Zorro is aided by his successor (Antonio Banderas), who is pursuing his own vendetta against the governor’s right-hand man while falling in love with de la Vega’s daughter, Elena.
A week ago, during a chat with Chris Killian from Comicbook.com website, Antonio Banderas has opened up about his thoughts and revealed that he would love to return as Zorro again, if asked. He said, “Yes, I would, I would consider that possibility, why not?”
Banderas also revealed that he would love to pass the legacy of Zorro to someone entitled too, “Yeah, I think today, I said something like that to somebody. They asked me about Zorro. If they called me to do Zorro, I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is to pass the torch.”
While asking about who would that be, Banderas took Time Holland’s name. The duo has recently collaborated in ‘Uncharted’ (2022). Banderas said, “He is so energetic and fun. He has got this spark (like Zorro) too.”
