Recently released ‘The Kerala Story’ (2023) has been criticized by a section of society. At the same time, it has also managed to cross Rs. 100 Crore club in nine days. The initial promotional campaign mentioned that 32,000 Hindu women from Kerala were forced to convert to Islam and join ISIS. Many questioned this claim, compelling the makers to remove this stat from the film and publicity material.
Now, actor Vijay Krishna, who played an adversary in ‘The Kerala Story’, has spoken regarding the film’s legitimacy and sent a warning to those who want it banned.
The actor was asked if he believes the controversy has helped the film’s box office. To which, he replied, “Yes, it has” and said that he was delighted that people are talking about the film. When asked if he was convinced that ‘The Kerala Story’ was based on real incidents, he replied, “Of course.” He went on to say that many people from Kerala have messaged him, confirming that what was depicted in the film was true and that it has happened to people they know. He added that even if the forced conversions happened with just one or two girls, it legitimizes the film’s plot.
In response to those who wished to ban the Adah Sharma-starrer, he stated that regardless of what anyone says, the film is a heartbreaking story about young ladies who got involved with ISIS. He said that those slamming ‘The Kerala Story’ should watch the movie once before deciding whether it is a good or bad film. He stated, “It is critical for us to view films objectively.”
