Drawing poetic momentum from the buzz it created, the recently released ‘Sita Ramam’ garnered rave reviews for canvassing a saga that’s more than a love story. Starring Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur and Rashmika Mandanna, the magnum opus celebrated the idea that humanity matters more than victory in war, geographical boundaries and religion. With discussions of ‘them’ and ‘us’ that have dominated the globe, the theme of humanity in the Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema production is relevant and carved out aesthetically without clichés.
The Hanu Raghavapudi directorial has levelled with the expectations and excitement it created after it hit the theatres in full force much to the delight of the audience who are celebrating it with festival-like fervour. Glowing reviews from critics and audience surface for the story that addresses the mystery surrounding Sita Mahalakshmi (Mrunal Thakur’s debut in Telugu cinema) and Lt Ram (Dulquer Salmaan) through two timelines, 1964 and 1984. While Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna), a Pakistan-origin student arrives in India to trace Sita to hand her a 20-year-old letter written by Lt Ram.
The film witnesses the lead actors Dulquer, Mrunal and Rashmika in their most earnest form in a glorious dreamy era. Dulquer made a pan-India impact, Mrunal delivered a striking South debut worth watching in theatres and Rashmika enlivened her part with absolute conviction. Director Raghavapudi has navigated the larger-than-life tale with stunning visuals and captured the depth of the narrative with his cinematic acumen.
