Madan Mohan, the late celebrated music director from the ‘60s and ‘70s, is considered the melody king of the Hindi film industry even in this generation. He is specifically remembered for the immortal Ghazals that he composed in several Hindi films.
Making his debut as music director with ‘Aankhen’ in 1950, Mohan gave his best works with Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi and Talat Mehmood with songs like “Lag Ja Gale Se Phir”, “Mera Saaya Saath”, “Dil Ke Armaan Ansuon Mein”, “Ruke Rule Se Kadam”, “Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho”, “Ye Duniya Hai Mehfil” and many more.
Interestingly, his melodious music was used in the iconic film ‘Veer-Zaara’ (2004). It has been said that, back then, Yash Chopra wanted to give a retro touch in the film and hence he opted for Madan Mohan’s music. His son, Sanjeev Kohli, helped Chopra by giving him his late father’s some unused/rejected dummy compositions to use for the film. Undoubtedly, the songs in ‘Veer-Zaara’ are still one of the most cherished ones among listeners.
Today, Sanjeev Kohli organised a nostalgic and memorable event at Kassia Auditorium in Bengaluru in collaboration with Stellar Events and Rotary Bengaluru Disha in aid of Paediatric Thalassemia Care.
The event named, Dil Dhoondta Hai – A Journey Through His Timeless Music, was a significant chance to remember and cherish the old times and to drown in Madan Mohan’s melodious creations.
