There are many franchises in Bollywood that have a very simple storyline but unique action scenes, which make the film special such as ‘Force’ (2011-2016), ‘Commando’ (2013-2019), ‘Baaghi’ (2016-2020) and many more. It can safely be said that ‘Sanak’ follows suit.
‘Sanak’ is about a married couple named, Vivaan Ahuja (Vidyut Jammwal) and Anshika Ahuja (Rukmini Maitra) living their life to the fullest. Suddenly they got stuck into bad days, when Anshika is diagnosed with a rare heart problem. She gets a surgery and is cured but their destiny had other plans for them. Suddenly a terrorist gang attacks the hospital, where Anshika is admitted and that leads to all the people including her, becoming hostage in the hospital. Vivaan, who is an MMA trainer, has to save Anshika from the terrorists.
We have seen Vidyut Jammwal’s actions before in the ‘Commando’ and ‘Force’ franchises too and no doubt he is definitely a top-notch actor for action scenes, whether he plays the role of a hero or the villain. Vidyut’s fast-paced action moves, the fighting scenes are a treat to watch. All the scenes in the film are very beautifully captured by cinematographer Pratik Deora and the angels are incredible. This kind of action films are very rare to watch nowadays in Bollywood. We have always seen action films, where fighting scenes are over stretched and the hero is some kind of invincible. But in this film, the villains are also shown very energetic and active with their moves.
Everything is fine but still something is missing in the film and that is Kanishk Varma’s direction, which is too focused on the action scenes and showcasing his lead actor’s ability and for that he forgets to focus on the storyline a little bit. Though there are few emotional scenes but still it could not catch our emotions. On the other hand, Rukmini Maitra makes her debut in Bollywood through this film and she gave her best performance in her part. Chandan Roy Sanyal plays the role of the head of the terrorist gang named, Saju. His acting is always incredible and phenomenal no doubt. Neha Dhupia plays the role of police officer ACP Jayati Bhargav, who is handling the terrorist attack case, but her role is not displaying much.
Overall, Vidyut Jammwal can be the only reason to watch the film for his marvellous action moves. But if one is finding a serious or any kind of interesting storyline, then this is not the movie to be satisfied with.
‘Sanak’ is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
