This Friday, there is no mainstream commercial Hindi film release. ‘X: Past is Present’ is the sole release of the week and it is an experimental affair with 10 directors shooting it while utilizing an elaborate cast. Though there are names like Rajat Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, Swara Bhaskar and Anshuman Jha featuring in there, surprisingly the promotion has been near to zilch. Furthermore, there would be very limited release of the film in select pockets, which makes its box office prospects entirely dependent upon word of mouth.
All of this means that ‘Tamasha’ is now the most awaited film of the season. The Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer carries a distinct appeal and given the hype around the two young stars, one is rest assured that youth would be pretty much enticed to give it a dekko. In fact producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Imtiaz Ali have come up with a distinct marketing and promotional campaign which is not on your face but yet conveys a clear understanding on what the film is all about, hence making it targeted and high impact.
While Imtiaz continues to be equated with quality cinema, Sajid is on a dream run, what with last year bringing on four straight successes (‘Kick’, ‘2 States’, ‘Heropanti’, ‘Highway’) and this year’s ‘Phantom’ too starting on a very positive note with a classy treatment to it. Given the fact that the producer goes all out to lend his films an upscale look and feel with no expense spared, one expects yet another big screen entertainer from him. All of that makes ‘Tamasha’ the only other Hindi film after ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ which promises to bring in audience in theaters next week.
As for this week, while the Salman Khan starrer would rule the show yet again, Bond fans would have their hands full with his latest arrival ‘Spectre’, which should keep them entertained.
