Irish actor Ray Stevenson, who portrayed the brutal and dictatorial Governor, Scott Buxton in S S Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ (2022), passed away on Sunday May 21 at the age of 58. However, there has been no information about the cause of his death.
Though he is most famous in India for his performance in ‘RRR’ opposite ‘Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade’ (1989) actress Alison Doody, Stevenson will also be remembered for his role of Volstagg in Marvel’s ‘Thor’ (2011).
Ray Stevenson commenced his career as a TV artist in the ’90s. Then in the beginning of the 2000s, he started getting action roles in Hollywood movies. He played Dagonet, one of the Knights of the Round Table, in ‘King Arthur’ (2004), which was his first significant acting job. In Antoine Fuqua’s action blockbuster, he makes a battle sacrifice to support Arthur played by Clive Owen and his band of warrior brothers.
Ray Stevenson acted in the upcoming series ‘Ahsoka’, which is a spin-off of the Star Wars’ ‘The Mandalorian’ (2019), before he passed away. In this upcoming action-adventure series, he plays the role of Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi who fled into the unknown Regions during Order 66 and managed to survive. This would be his final performance.
Director S S Rajamouli took to his Twitter handle and pay his last respect to the actor, “Shocking… Just can’t believe this news. Ray brought in so much energy and vibrancy with him to the sets. It was infectious. Working with him was pure joy. My prayers are with his family. May his soul rest in peace.”
