Ram Charan made his Bollywood debut with ‘Zanjeer’ (2013), which was directed by Apoorva Lakhia, co-starring Priyanka Chopra. The movie had a terrible box office performance. After a long silence, the filmmaker has now discussed his relationship with Ram Charan.
Apoorva Lakhia revealed that Ram Charan does not answer his phone calls, but his wife Upasana does. “Ram Charan is a really good friend of mine,” the director stated. “Despite ‘Zanjeer’s poor box office performance, I have visited and stayed with him several times at his home in Hyderabad. But he no longer answers my phone calls. Pata nahi, badal gaya phone ke nahi… His wife (Upasana) responds, but he does not”, he added.
When asked if he sent Ram Charan any messages during the release of ‘RRR’ (2022), Apoorva Lakhia responded, “He contacted me from Ukraine and asked me what I was up to. I told him I wasn’t doing anything significant. He asked, ‘I need to shoot two or three action sequences of the second unit, can you come and do it?’. I told him, ‘Yes, I’ll get back to you’. He then called once more and enquired, ‘Can you?’ I was unable to go since I was filming or working on something. I believe it was the last time I spoke to him. He occasionally calls me, but now he doesn’t pick up.”
