Rising Sun Films, the prolific production banner headed by Director Shoojit Sircar and Ronnie Lahiri, has once again struck gold at the National Film Awards .
Their film ‘Pink’ (2016), the most talked about social thriller last year with a story that is both pertinent and resonant of contemporary times, has won the award for the Best Film On Social Issues at the 64th National Film Awards.
And what makes it even more special is that this is their fourth film in as many years to win a National Award in some category or another; a testimony to their strong commitment to deliver films that are not just big commercial hits but also have a strong social message.
• In 2013, ‘Vicky Donor’ won Best Popular Film, and veteran actors Annu Kapoor and Dolly Ahluwalia won Best Supporting Actor (Male) and Best Supporting Actor (Female) for this cult film.
• In 2014, ‘Madras Café’ brought home the National Film Award for Best Audiography to Nihar Ranjan and Bishwadeep Chatterjee.
• ‘Piku’ (2015), Shoojit’s cinematic gem, won the National Award for the Best Actor – Amitabh Bachchan, and Best Screenplay as well as Best Dialogue for Juhi Chaturvedi.
• And now ‘Pink’ (2016), the most talked about social thriller last year with a story that is both pertinent and resonant of contemporary times, has won the award for the Best Film On Social Issues at the 64th National Film Awards.
In acknowledgement of this highest cinematic honour in India, a visibly happy Creative Producer Shoojit Sircar said, “I would like to humbly thank my entire team for this huge honour. ‘Pink’ would not have been possible without Mr Amitabh Bachchan and his support and i would like to also thank my friend and Producer Ronnie Lahiri, Director Aniruddha, my writer Ritesh Shah and my lovely cast and crew for coming together with me. I would also like to thank the National Award jury for bestowing one of the most respectable laurels on us, and i feel more responsible now to persevere ahead with the film and its cause. I will not celebrate this Award in the usual manner but will dedicate to taking ‘Pink’ to larger audiences.”
At Rising Sun Films, Shoojit & Ronnie have collaborated meticulously to put together a team of creative and committed film professionals for their projects. Known for stories that are heart felt, they have managed to bring together the best writers, cinematographers, editors and actors on board. “Filmmaking is pure teamwork, and when a film made under the aegis of Rising Sun Films wins a National Film Award, it gratifies the entire film’s team, making them proud. We are extremely happy and grateful for the National Award that ‘Pink’ has won,” said Ronnie.
