India has not won any Oscar for Best Feature Film category yet, but several films have made their nominations from time-to-time. The last nomination was Jr. NTR’s ‘RRR’ (2022). Other films that have been nominated are ‘Mother India’ (1957), ‘Salaam Bombay!’ (1988), ‘Lagaan’ (2001), ‘Water’ (2005), ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ (2012) and ‘Newton’ (2017).
Now the Film Federation of India has already taken the initiative to process the selection of the films to make their official entry to the Academy Awards 2024. According to a few reports, we got to know that ‘Balagam’, ‘The Kerala Story’, ‘Zwigato’ and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ are hanging near to get selected.
The final announcement is expected to come by next week. Last ‘RRR’ won an Oscar for Best Song of The Year and Guneet Monga’s ‘The Elephant Whispers’ (2022) won an Oscar for Best Documentary this year.
We also got to know that the jury, that consists of seventeen members, which is presided over by the director Girish Kasaravalli, has received over twenty-two submissions from all around India. Last year Pan Nalin’s ‘Chello Show’ (2021) was selected as India’s official entry for the Best Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
