Mithoon might be one of the luckiest composers in the industry to start his career working with iconic singers like Roop Kumar Rathod, Shilpa Rao, KK and Atif Aslam. The composer made a triumph by composing for ‘Bas Ek Pal’ (2006) and ‘Anwar’ (2007). Songs like “Tere Bin”, “Bas Ek Pal”, “Maula Mere Maula” and “Javeda Zindagi – Tose Naina Laage” are still fresh in our memories.
Now it’s been almost two decades, Mithoon has cemented his career gradually by giving remarkable songs in films like ‘The Train’ (2007), ‘Murder 2’ (2011), ‘Aashiqui 2’ (2013), ‘Yaariyan’ (2014), ‘Ek Villain’ (2014), ‘Kabir Singh’ (2019), ‘JugJugg Jeeyo’ (2022) and more. Not only as a composer, but Mithoon writes lyrics and sings from time to time.
Anil Sharma, who was looking for a contemporary composer for his film ‘Gadar 2’ (2023), was automatically drawn to Mithoon because of his previous success. Mithoon has recreated the songs “Main Nikla O Gaddi Leke” and “Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava”, which are two of the most historical songs from the early 2000s. Recreating such songs after twenty-two years is a source of pride for Mithoon.
That’s exactly what we learnt from Mithoon himself. Recently in a close conversation with DNA India, the 38-year-old composer has shared that it was definitely a big responsibility for him to recreate legendary Uttam Singh and Anand Bakshi’s songs. But he enjoyed working on them and celebrating their work in a new way.
Mithoon also shared that he has intentionally retained Udit Narayan’s voice in “Main Nikla O Gaddi Leke” and “Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava” and the melody of his voice has once again worked well among the masses. According to him, Udit Ji’s voice did play an important role to bring back the nostalgia in ‘Gadar 2’.
