Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s new production ‘Malaal’, apart from launching two new faces in Sharmin Segal and Meezaan, also serves as the Bollywood debut of director Mangesh Hadawale. Mangesh has a few Marathi films like ‘Tingya’ and ‘Tapaal’ to his credit as a director. Very few would know that though ‘Malaal’ is his first official Hindi film to release in theatres, he had earlier directed a film called ‘Dekh Indian Circus’ which never saw the light of day.
‘Dekh Indian Circus’, produced by Anil Lad, Mahaveer Jain, Chirag Shah and presented by Imtiaz Ali, featured Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tannishtha Chetterjee in principal roles. The film was shot in 2010-11, made rounds of several film festivals and was slated for a theatrical release in 2011. The film had music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Prasoon Joshi.
The reason behind the film not getting a release, despite garnering accolades at festivals, can be best explained by the makers but with ‘Malaal’, Mangesh can definitely for a good, fresh innings in Bollywood.
