It’s been forty-eight years since Madan Mohan left us with his unforgettable memories and melodious music. The legend is still considered the melody king of Indian cinema. From the ‘50s to the ‘70s, he gave euphonious songs to fans that are quite popular even in this day and age. Hence, we can’t help but pay a tribute to him today, on the icon’s 99th birthday.
Madan Mohan was born in 1924 and died in 1975. He debuted with two ghazals records, “Aane Laga Hai Koi Nazar Jalwa Gar Mujhe” and “Is Raaz Ko Duniya Jaanti Hai” in 1947. He got his first chance to work in the film industry with ‘Shaheed’ (1948) with the songs, “Pinjare Mein Bulbul Bole” and “Mera Chhotasa Dil Dole” along with Lata Mangeshkar. Interestingly, these two songs were never released.
Mohan got his first big break with ‘Aankhen’ (1950), where he got the chance to work with Mohammad Rafi as a music director. Since then, Madan has mostly worked with Lata Mangeshkar and became quite popular in his musical journey.
Meanwhile, twenty-nine years after his death, director Yash Chopra used Mohan’s unreleased music for ‘Veer-Zaara’ (2004) to give a retro touch to his film and undoubtedly all the songs worked big time and are still immensely cherished by people.
Today on the occasion of Madan Mohan’s 99th birthday, Desigoonj and Sur Dhanuk organised an online tribute concert, ‘Tribute To Magical Musical Madan Mohan’, which began at 7 pm on their YouTube Channel.
