Recently, it was reported that Malayalam actor-filmmaker Prithviraj’s next directorial is in the works. Prithviraj Sukumaran, who was working on the sequel to his blockbuster film ‘Lucifer’ (2019) with writer Murali Gopy, has finally decided to put the sequel plan into motion. At one point, rumours of a sequel were doing the rounds on the internet. But now the makers have decided to start the film by August this year.
Sources confirmed that it will be a direct sequel to the original and will continue the story of Khureshi Abra’am, the character played by Mohanlal in the first part.
Prithviraj will be retaining some of the primary characters from it while adding new names to the secondary cast. The story and other cast and crew details are currently being kept under wraps. The sequel, which was announced last year, will be backed by Antony Perumbavoor, who also produced the original.
‘Lucifer 2’, also titled as ‘Empuraan’, will see Mohanlal playing the role of Stephen Nedumpally/ Khureshi Abra’am under Prithviraj’s direction, who aimed to make the sequel a full-fledged commercial entertainer that will appeal to all sections of the audience.
Talking about ‘Lucifer’, it was a thriller set against the backdrop of politics in Kerala. It followed the story of Stephen Nedumpally, played by Mohanlal, who tries to save his foster father’s family from evil. The final conclusion of the film revealed that Stephen is an international mafia figure who goes by the name Khureshi Abra’am.
The sequel will also star Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier.
