‘Squid Game’ (2021), which has recently achieved an Emmy, is one of the most watched mega hit Korean series of all time on Netflix. To celebrate this feat, Netflix had organized a congratulatory press conference on Friday, September 16, where writer-director, Hwang Dong-hyuk talked about ‘Squid Game’s Season 2. He had also spilled some beans about the cast of Season 3 and it absolutely blew our mind.
The director hinted that they might invite Leonardo DiCaprio for Season 3, “There will be no known Hollywood actor in Season 2. That’s not in the plan and if the stage changes, maybe in Season 3, but for Season 2, it is still set in Korea. Leonardo DiCaprio did say he is a big fan of ‘Squid Game’, so maybe if time or chances allow, we can ask him to join the games.”
According to Variety, Hwang Dong-hyuk also confirmed that the shooting for Season 2 and 3 will commence in 2023 and 2024 respectively, “We will start shooting Season 2 next year and it’ll be released the following year.”
The whole cast and crew of ‘Squid Game’ were present at the press conference, expect the lead actor, Lee Jung-jae, as he was busy attending the North America premiere of his directorial debut, ‘The Hunt’ at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Lee Jung-jae has also achieved an Emmy for ‘Squid Game’.
