Barkhaa and Yahaan Sabki Lagi Hai have proven to be disasters at the box office. Though former was released reasonably well for a film of this starcast and scale, there were no takers whatsoever. There was no opening weekend whatsoever and weekdays just met a terrible end on Wednesday evening itself, since Furious 7 arrived on Thursday. All of this meant that Barkhaa closed under 1.5 crore mark.
Yahaan Sabki Lagi Hai met with an even worse fate as even 1 crore didn’t come in for the film. With a weird title, no promotion and offbeat genre, there was just no buzz at all.
Fate of such films makes one wonder who makes it, for whom, and why, when it is pretty much apparent on paper itself that there won’t be any takers at all. Such a terrible waste of resources, especially in the times when at an average two or three such films are arriving every weekend and only making the Bollywood balance sheet go red. One can just hope that some thought would go in before green lighting projects as industry is bleeding and it is high time that resources are put to much more effective use.
Meanwhile NH10 and Dum Laga Ke Haisha have now almost finished their run and are running in very shows this week, what with Furious 7 and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy occupying more than 80% of screens between themselves.
