‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ is a mirror of the social evils that are still persisting in our country. Female infanticide is a burning problem and the movie focuses entirely on it. Many other examples in the movie talk about female subjugation and how the women of India are still trapped in the shackles of the patriarchal society. The movie focuses on the fact that in many areas the concept still exists that women have the sole purpose of maintaining the house and producing an heir for the family.
In this movie, the wife of Jayesh Bhai is pregnant with her 7th baby after 6 abortions because all of them were female. And no one in the family ever bothered to wonder why all the babies were female. It’s quite obvious scientifically that the man is at fault but the wife was blamed.
The character of Jayesh Bhai is someone who is a people-pleaser, yet he has his own conscience. And the dual interests of the character are always in conflict. He can never tell his parents that they are wrong. On the other hand, he loves his wife and daughter blindly.
The heartbreaking aspect of the movie is that Mudra, Jayesh bhai’s wife is the one who is pregnant yet has no say in her abortion or pregnancy.
This takes us to the issue of female reproductive rights and the right to dignity of every individual that is taken for granted in many areas of our nation. Men beating their wives is considered normal and women are blamed because it’s assumed that they made some mistake and that’s why they were beaten.
The end of the movie is quite emotional and unrealistic to some extent because there is a sudden change of heart of Boman Irani who is the film’s anti-Hero.
However, the movie brings forward some important aspects of the patriarchal society. It deals with some burning issues that are still persisting in India. Hence, such social-political satires deserve to be released more on the silver screen.
‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
