After the atrocious song “Zinda Banda”, the makers of ‘Jawan’ dropped the second song “Chaleya” today. The music of “Zinda Banda”, the dance moves and the tunes, all were so inadequate that it literally lowered our expectations for ‘Jawan’. After such an enormous success of ‘Pathaan’ (2023), it was very saddening to hear such a track, that too from a Shah Rukh Khan starrer!
However, the second song “Chaleya” is quite better. The music including the tunes and rhythm are quite unique and refreshing. Although the storyline of the song seems very ordinary – the hero trying to impress the heroine by singing and dancing behind her with a number of background dancers – the uncommon part of this song is the music and the lyrics.
The vibrant and colourful background with funky outfits worn by Shah Rukh Khan like polka dotted, striped and floral printed shirts paired with baggy jeans are very new and stimulating to watch. Even Nayanthara is also looking lively in floral dress, in a chiffon skirt and top and also in a halter neck yellow dress in the song.
Though Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara have collaborated for the first time, the romantic chemistry between the duo gives a bracing vibe.
The most striking factor of “Chaleya” is as usual Arijit Singh’s rendition. The amount of substandard quality Anirudh offered us in “Zinda Banda”, it was only possible for Singh to overcome such bad music. Arijit has such a melting voice that it suits any actor. Whether it’s an elderly star or for a newcomer, Singh’s voice can easily match their spirit. Even Arijit’s combination with Shilpa Rao is unexpectedly satisfying.
Once again Kumaar made the song memorable with his lyrics and ironically Anirudh’s composition is not making our ears hurt this time.
Directed by Atlee, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Priyamani, Yogi Babu, Sanya Malhotra and Sunil Grover, ‘Jawan’ is all set to hit the theatres on September 7, 2023.
