Ivan Reitman, renowned for directing and producing some of the biggest Hollywood comedy films and TV shows, passed away on February 12, at the age of 75. According to his family, Reitman died peacefully in sleep Saturday night at his home in Montecito, California.
Ivan Reitman was a director, producer and also screenwriter. He was best known for numerous comedy projects, especially in the ‘80s and ‘90s era. He had also founded The Montecito Picture Company production house in 1988. His notable works are ‘Ghostbuster’ (1984), ‘Twins’ (1988), ‘Ghostbuster 2’ (1989), ‘Kindergarten Cop’ (1989), ‘Fathers Day’ (1997), ‘Six Days, Seven Nights’ (1998), ‘Evolution’ (2001), ‘My Super Ex-Girlfriend’ (2006), ‘No Strings Attached’ (2011) among others.
Reitman’s children, Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement to The Associated Press, “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life. We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”
The chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, Tom Rothman expressed his deep condolence on the ‘Ghostbuster’ film’s official Twitter account that Reitman will be dearly missed.
