R Balki’s latest psychological thriller ‘Chup – Revenge Of The Artist’ has turned out to be a shining example of movies performing well at the box office only with good content. Released on September 23, the multi-starrer featuring an unusual cast comprising Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt, Dulquer Salmaan and Shreya Dhanwanthary has earned Rs 3.06 Cr. at the box office on its release day.

Despite being a National Cinema Day (with Rs. 75 ticket) and a screen count of 1000, the movie has still managed to rake in an impressive figure of Rs  3.06 Cr.

Considering the positive word of mouth and terrific response, trade analysts are hopeful that this is a new trend in box office where weekend figures of smaller films will be smaller but the weekdays and the sustaining abilities is what determines a box office success of such films.

While Balki is also known for its cinematic marvels like ‘Cheeni Kum’ (2007), ‘Paa’ (2009) and ‘Padman’ (2018) among others, his latest romantic psycho thriller ‘Chup’ has been receiving overwhelming response, as the audience, industry and many critics can’t stop raving about his latest edge of the seat thriller, impeccable performances, terrific music by Amit Trivedi and impactful dialogues.

The unique promotional strategy of organizing a special freeview for the audience three days before the film’s release in India also worked in the film’s favour, thereby generating positive buzz and huge anticipation.

‘Chup’ is directed by R Balki and produced by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Anil Naidu, Dr. Jayantilal Gada (PEN Studios) and Gauri Shinde. The original story is by R Balki, screenplay and dialogues are co-written by R Balki, critic-turned-writer Raja Sen and Rishi Virmani.
