Harnaaz Sandhu brought home the crown of the 70th Miss Universe beauty contest. The 21-year old represented India at Eilat, Israel. Sandhu won the title defeating Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane.
She became the third Indian to win the crown after Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000. Both of them congratulated her on the win. Harnaaz said “Chak de Phatte” on winning the title after 21 years and making the country proud.
The crown was presented to her by Andrea Meza who is a former Miss Universe from Mexico. The event was live-streamed globally and the announcement of the winner was made on the official page of the beauty contest.
She answered all the questions with confidence and earned love when she mentioned that it’s time to act rather than speak on climate change. When asked her opinion of convincing people who think climate change is a hoax she answered, “My heart breaks to see how nature is going through a lot of problems, and it is all due to our irresponsible behaviour. I totally feel that this is the time to take action and talk less. Because our each action could save or kill nature. Prevent and protect is better than repent and repair and this is what I am trying to convince you guys today.” The answer was appreciated a lot.
She hails from the state of Punjab and started her career as a Chandigarh-based model. In 2017 she started her journey of beauty contests after winning Times Fresh Face. She won several other beauty pageants earlier including Miss Diva 2021 and Femina Miss India Punjab 2019. She has also worked in a number of Punjabi films.
