Good Luck Jerry, the Janhavi Kapoor starrer, is a fine dark comedy. Janhavi aka Jerry finds herself surrounded by drug mafias while maintaining the correct narrative of the film. The adventure of Jerry is a slow plot development but towards the end, it becomes comforting and a good binge watch.
Director Siddharth Sengupta tried to create a world that not most of us are not accustomed to in terms of language and behaviour but the screenplay makes everything smooth. Jerry’s first encounter with drugs, her first interaction with the drug mafia, the intermission block, and many small sequences add up to make a beautiful delivery overall. Deepak Dobriyal does fabulous work throughout.
The movie is more of a comedy than a drama with perfect comic timing but the emotional segment doesn’t land well. Aman Pant’s background score and music by Parag Chhabra is in sync with the film’s flavor, making it extremely realistic. Another flavour of realism is in the authenticity of the dialogues that are difficult to grasp but fit perfectly to the situation.
However, the movie is not made for the mass hence is limited to the audience of OTT. The emotional ride isn’t working for the film despite all the dark comic elements. Janhavi Kapoor plays too innocent to be accurate and that strikes the audience somewhat. The actors in the supporting role are beyond outstanding and hold the plot extremely well. The climax is something one should look forward to.
Good luck Jerry is currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
