Director Kagti has made sure to bring all the ingredients to have a nationalistic feel and she succeeds on many levels. Aided by the powerful performance of Akshay Kumar, who at times, seems a little lost, even though, he is very much in his comfort zone. The rest of the cast like Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Sunny Kaushal, contribute equally well. Mouni Roy is sometimes irritating and Nikita Dutta is passable. However, the predictable story does not help and at times, the movie is not inspiring at all; missing an opportunity to better show the Independence and partition era. Cinematographer Álvaro Gutiérrez’s work is commendable whereas the screenplay by Rajesh Devraj could been tighter. Overall, ‘Gold’ may win hearts but it is not a landmark movie.
