Amidst the pressure to recreate the magic of the first part, director Anil Sharma egotistically focuses on re-launching his son, Utkarsh Sharma, even though he had been previously rejected by audiences for his poor acting. Sunny Deol’s electrifying screen presence, emotional performance, decent climax and patriotic dialogues saves the film. However, Sharma makes a mistake by selling the film as a Sunny Deol movie, while giving his son most of the screen time in the first half, which also unfairly shortened Ameesha Patel’s screen time. The first part was a love story, but this time it is an emotional love story between a father and son. Audiences expected more clap-worthy dialogues and powerful action scenes. Mithoon’s music is a huge disappointment and none of the songs are memorable. Would it have been wiser to rope in Uttam Singh, who is still around? The second half could have been better scripted and the villain is too weak. ‘Gadar 2’ is a missed opportunity but it will still be lauded by hardcore fans of Sunny Deol. Utkarsh Sharma should quit acting forever!
‘Gadar 2’ is running in cinemas now.
