The reason for Emma Watson’s decision to take a break from acting has finally been revealed. Since ‘Little Women’ (2019), the actress hasn’t appeared in a film; last year’s unexpected ‘Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts’ (2022) was her only other on-screen appearance.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Watson, who became a household name for her portrayal of Hermione Granger in the ‘Harry Potter’ (2001-2011) film series, claimed that the industry has begun to make her feel “caged.”
She said, “I wasn’t very happy. What I found most difficult was having to go out and sell something over which I had little control. To be able to stand in front of a film and ask every journalist, ‘How does this connect with your viewpoint?’ It was really challenging to serve as the public face and spokesperson for events that I was not able to participate in.”
Watson, who has appeared in films like The ‘Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ (2012) and ‘Beauty And The Beast’ (2017), later complained that she didn’t “have a voice” when being questioned.
She continued, “And I began to understand that I only wanted to be in positions where, if I received criticism, I could say, in a way that didn’t make me despise myself, ‘Yes, I messed up, it was my decision, I should have done better’.”
Emma Watson then revealed that she will return to acting and that she’ll be shooting for a new project in early 2024.
