Legendary veteran comedy actor, Ed O’Neill aka Edward Leonard O’Neill, who rose to fame with ‘Married…With Children’ (1987-1997), turned 76 years old on April 12. His marvellous performance in the sitcom got him nominated for two Golden Globe Awards.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, O’Neill used to be a professional footballer in his young age. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969, under head coach, Chuck Noll. He used to play as defensive lineman. Even in the sitcom ‘Married…With Children’, O’Neill played the role of a former high school footballer, who has failed to make it big in his life. O’Neill has also worked as a substitute social studies teacher at his alma mater, Ursuline High School, before he became an actor.
O’Neill has also given several other notable works such as ‘The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane’ (1990), ‘Wayne’s World’ (1992), ‘The Spanish Prisoner’ (1997), ‘Spartan’ (2004), ‘Ralph Breaks The Internet’ (2018) and many more.
O’Neill has done some remarkable TV series side-by-side too including ‘Another World’ (1981), ‘Moonlightning’ (1985), ‘The Equalizer’ (1985), ‘Saturday Night Live’ (1990), ‘In Living Color’ (1994), ‘Twenty Good Years’ (2006), among others.
Actor Craig T. Nelson, who was almost starred the role of Jay Pritchett in ‘Modern Family’ (2009-2020) sitcom, the role went to Ed O’Neill at the very last moment and he made a groundbreaking performance. O’Neill has earned three Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won two Screen Actors Guild Awards for his performance in the sitcom.
Ed O’Neill has also done few voice-works for ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ (2012) and ‘Finding Dory’ (2016) Disney animated movies and ‘Finding Dory’ had set numerous box office records in the whole North America at that time.
