Urmila Matondkar is still remembered by all the ’90s people around and the new generation is slowly catching up. The ‘Khoobsurat’ girl used to be the nation’s crush in the whole ’90s era. From giving bubbly and sweet to bold and hot performances, Urmila was famous for her versatility and hence, she was a recognized name in Bollywood, despite the fierce competition.
Urmila began her career as a child artist in ‘Karm’ (1977) but gained attention in ‘Masoom’ (1983). Later from ‘Narasimha’ (1991), ‘Aa Gale Lag Ja’ (1994), ‘Rangeela’ (1995), ‘Judaai’ (1997), ‘China Gate’ (1998), ‘Kaun’ (1999), ‘Mast’ (1999), ‘Janam Samjha Karo’ (1999) to ‘Pinjar (2003), ‘Bas Ek Pal’ (2006), ‘Aag’ (2007), she has stunned the audiences in every generation.
But did you know Urmila worked with Shah Rukh Khan only once in ‘Chamatkar’ (1992)? In an interview with ETimes, she finally opened up and expressed her regrets for not working more with all the three Khans in Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.
While talking about her work she revealed that she deliberately did not avoid working with the Khans, “It was not a deliberate decision. When the opportunities came, they were not meaty enough. One of the biggest regrets is not being able to work with Shah Rukh Khan as much as I would have loved to. Or even Aamir Khan. I respect their craft. Salman is great fun to work with. I tell him, ‘I would love to look like you. So fresh and good!’ I watch some of the ‘Bigg Boss’ episodes just because of him. He is so entertaining.”
Back then, when ‘Chamatkar’ was released, both Shah Rukh and Urmila weren’t stars yet and were hustling for fame. The film is a romantic-comedy genre and the cute and bubby coupling of Khan and Matondkar attracted the audiences very much in the ‘90s.
Even the songs like “Iss Pyar Se Meri Taraf Na Dekho”, “Bichhoo O Bichhoo”, “O Meri Neendein Churana” remain popular among people as they carry the beautiful innocence of two yet-to-be stars in Bollywood.
Isn’t it sad to know that even after ‘Chamatkar’ created magic on-screen, the duo did not get a chance to work together any further?
The ‘Rangeela’ star will be making her comeback to acting with ‘Tiwari’, an action thriller web-series.
