Veteran actor Jagdeep passed away on 8 July at the age of 81. He is best known for his role as Soorma Bhopali in the iconic movie ‘Sholay’ (1975) where he rose to fame, opposite Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan. He was last seen in ‘Gali Gali Chor Hai’ (2012) on the big screen.
Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri was not well. In 2019, he was awarded by IIFA for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. Some of his noteworthy work includes in films like ‘Shahenshah’ (1953), Bidaai’ (1974), ‘Aaina’ (1977), ‘Qurbani’ (1980), ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ (1991) and ‘Andaaz Apna Apna’ (1994).
He directed and produced ‘Soorma Bhopali’ (1988).
Jagdeep is survived by his two sons Javed Jaaferi and Television Producer/Director Naved Jafri, his daughter Muskaan Jafri from his second wife Nazima.
