After the release of ‘The Mummy’ (1999), Brendan Fraser became one of the most demanding actors in the 2000s era with back-to-back hits. However, he seemingly disappeared from the spotlight for a long time and in 2018, finally he revealed the reason. It appeared that the actor wasn’t out of work by choice, but because he felt he had been blacklisted by Hollywood.

After struggling miserably with depression for several years, Fraser eventually returned to the silver screen with ‘The Whale’ last year. And seems like fans haven’t forgotten him and poured their love for the film. Hence today, the actor has won an Oscar for Best Actor at 95th Academy Awards 2023 for ‘The Whale’.

The Darren Aronofsky-directorial stars Fraser as a morbidly obese teacher named Charlie, who hides out in his flat and eats his way to death. He is desperate to reconnect with his teenage daughter for a last chance at redemption. The role of Charlie has already made Fraser win the Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice Awards and best actor nominations for the BAFTA and Golden Globes this year. And now finally he won an Oscar too.

Faraser’s return has literally made the stage quite emotional with his heart-touching speech. While receiving the Oscar, he took to the stage and shared, “So this is what the multiverse looks like! I started in this business 30 years ago. Things didn’t come easily to me but there was a facility I didn’t appreciate at the time until it stopped.”

While paying tribute to the director Aronofsky and the writer Samuel Hunter, Fraser further added, “You laid your whale-sized hearts bare so we could see into your souls.”
