Until last month, March 8 was overcrowded with Hindi releases but now, only one Hindi film will release. However, it will suffer from a Hollywood biggie. Both films can work big time as a lot of factors are going in their favour.
‘Badla’ is directed by Sujoy Ghosh, known for giving the unforgettable suspense thriller ‘Kahaani’ (2012). This is also a suspense film and an official remake of the 2017 Spanish film ‘The Invisible Guest’, considered the mother of all suspense films. Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu feature in lead roles. Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment has produced the film and the superstar is also expected to make a cameo. The trailer is interesting and with Sujoy at the helm of affairs, the film seems to be in safe hands. Since it looks niche and doesn’t have chartbuster songs, the buzz is limited. The opening can be in the range of Rs. 2.5-3 crore. If the response is positive, it can go a long way, even collecting Rs. 50 crore lifetime since urban audiences would love to see a well-made suspense film. A negative word of mouth however will ruin things for the film.
‘Captain Marvel’ is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this reason will be enough for it to emerge as a successful flick. It stars Brie Larson in the lead role and a glimpse of this character was seen in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ last year. The opening is expected to be huge as Marvel fans are sure to go for this film in large numbers. But to emerge as a Super-Hit or Blockbuster, it has to attract audiences in the dubbed version. This is that section that doesn’t follow Marvel films religiously and would go for it if it promises loads of entertainment. So if the film is simple and entertaining, it can surely succeed hugely. The opening will be in the range of Rs. 7-8 crore with an outside chance of Rs. 10 crore as well. After all, it’s Woman’s Day tomorrow and the film, based on a female superhero, can be apt, thereby making it even more special.
