Extremely dark days are going on in the Indian film industry as one after one, we are losing our legends for this dreadful situation and it’s quite sad and unfortunate. Just few days back on February 6, we lost the luminary singer Lata Mangeshkar Ji and now it’s just been fortnight, we lost another legendary singer-composer Bappi Lahiri yesterday, on February 15. He took his last breath at 11.45pm at the age of 69 at Criticare Hospital in Mumbai. Lahiri was admitted under Dr. Deepak Namjoshi and he declared that Lahiri was suffering from lung infection called Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
From the whole Bollywood industry to Indian government, everyone is currently shocked and mourning the demise of the legend. Prime Minister Of India, Narendra Modi shared a picture with Bappi Lahiri and paid his tribute and tweeted that Lahiri’s lively nature will be deeply missed.

President Of India, Ram Nath Kovind tweeted that Lahiri’s diverse range and youthful music will continue to delight the listeners.

Few Bollywood celebrities have already gathered at Bappi Lahiri’s residence in Mumbai to pay their last tribute such as music composer Lalit Pandit, singer Shaan, Rakesh Roshan, Kajol and her mother Tanuja, singer Alka Yagnik, Padmini Kolhapuri, singer Abhijeet, etc. Other celebrities have expressed their condolences on Twitter like Sanjay Dutt, Anushka Sharma, Jackie Shroff, Sophie Choudry, Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar among others.
Bappi Lahiri was famous for using of synthesized disco music for the very first time in Indian cinema. He had also sung the songs of his own compositions. Not only in Hindi, he had also sung many songs for Bengali films too, as he was originally a Bengali and his real name was Alokesh Lahiri. He had sung for Bengali films like ‘Amar Prem’ (1972), ‘Amar Sangee’ (1986), ‘Asha O Bhalobasha’ (1989), ‘Aamar Tumi’ (1989) and many more.
Almost every soundtrack from the ‘80s and ‘90s era were composed by Lahiri. His songs, which are still cherished by us are “Disco Dancer”, “Naya Kadam”, “Dance Dance”, “Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost”, “Yaad Aa Raha Hai”, “Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re”, “De De Pyaar De”, “Inteha Ho Gayi Intezaar Ki”, “Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja”, “Tamma Tamma Loge”, “Ooh La La”, “Raat Baaqi Baat Baaqi”, “Tune Maari Entriyaan” and many more. He got entrance in Guinness Book Of World Records for recording over 180 songs for 33 films in the year 1986.
Bappi Lahiri was also an expert in playing tabla, piano, drum, guitar, saxophone, bongos and dholak musical instruments. The legendary composer had won several prestigious accolades such as Filmfare Awards, Life Achievement Awards, Mirchi Music Awards and many more. In the year 2014, Lahiri joined politics by joining BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) political party and was declared a BJP candidate from Srerampur, West Bengal.
The legend was last appeared on-screen in ‘Bigg Boss’ season 15 with Salman Khan, where he was promoting his grandson, Swastik Bansal. He sang his last song “Bhankas” from the film ‘Baaghi 3’ (2020).
