As was expected, none of the two new releases managed to do well commercially. ‘Masaan’, an offbeat film, saw some patronage coming from the B-Town insiders but that wasn’t enough to bring ‘aam junta’ from outside in theaters. The film saw a controlled release for itself and though it did receive good critical acclaim, commercially it didn’t have much going for it. As a result, the first weekend was just around the 1 crore mark.
‘Aisa Yeh Jahaan’ was another film to arrive and it couldn’t even see a decent all-India release. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t even reviewed by many critics. The film came without any promotion and has disappeared without a trace too. Disaster.
Meanwhile, it was ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ that continued to bring on moolah, what with around Rs. 55 crore (Rs. 550 million) coming in over the second weekend. This is huge indeed for the Salman Khan starrer as it has now crossed the Rs. 232 crore (Rs. 2.32 billion) lifetime total of Kick by crossing the Rs. 240 crore (Rs. 2.4 billion) mark. The film is continuing to be quite strong at the Box Office and is now heading towards the All Time Blockbuster mark. While the ‘Dhoom 3’ lifetime total of Rs. 284 crore (Rs. 2.84 billion) would certainly be crossed, Kabir Khan is now all set to join Rajkumar Hirani in the Rs. 300 crore (Rs. 3 Billion) club.
On the other hand ‘Baahubali’ is moving ahead relentlessly and had another good weekend of around Rs. 10 crore (Rs. 100 million) The film has now crossed the Rs. 83 crore (Rs. 83 million) mark and while Rs. 90 crore (Rs. 900 million) is a given, it has to be seen how close does it manage to reach near the Rs. 100 crore (Rs. 1 billion) mark. Blockbuster.
