Remember that rib tickling comedy with a sprinkle of naughtiness between Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Karisma Kapoor from the film ‘Andaz’? Released in 1994, the film is a perfect combination of diversity. The actions with comedy undoubtedly can keep you stick to your couch even to this day.
The ‘Pati, Patni aur Woh’ storyline between Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Karisma Kapoor was one of the most satirical tales from the ‘90s. Yet Kapoor and Chawla’s chemistry as husband-wife grabbed much attention. Those naughty love making after bittersweet fights are the most intriguing parts which are utterly capable of keeping us excited.
‘Andaz’ was the second collaboration between Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla. Although their first film ‘Benaam Badshah’ (1991) couldn’t impress the audiences much, producer Pahlaj Nihalani took the challenge and luckily it clicked audiences’ minds. Since then, the on-screen ‘jodi’ of Kapoor and Chawla became a hit.
These kind of mixed genre films used to grab audiences’ attention more among the ‘90s generation people. Hence, back then, ‘Andaz’ was quite a hit at the box office.
‘Andaz’ has seven songs “Chal Re Gaa Mere Saath”, “Khada Hai”, “Kuku Kuku”, “Laila Bichari”, “Lelo Lelo Mera Imtihaan”, “Main Maal Gaadi”, “Nacho Gao” and each song has uniquely impressed the audiences. And why won’t be. After all, prodigious singers like Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sadhna Sargam, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Bappi Lahiri and Vinod Rathod have contributed their magical voices to the songs.
But did you know what was the most important thing that made ‘Andaz’ the talk of the town? The huge controversy and the furore around the song “Khada Hai”. Back then, the song made quite headlines for its vulgarity. The song exhibited Anil Kapoor in a lungi, pleading to Juhi to let him enter the bedroom while Juhi Chawla kept refusing. The lyrics such as “Khada Hai Khada Hai Khada Hai/Dar Pe Tere Aashiq Khada Hai”, “Arey Khol Khol Khol Darwaja Khol/Bol Bol Bol Arey Pyar Ke Do Bol” kicked up a storm.
Therefore, “Khada Hai” had to be removed from the film and Anil Kapoor pleaded innocence on several occasions, saying he had no idea that the song was a double meaning.
To save himself, producer Nihalani turned the topic towards the director of ‘Andaz’, David Dhawan, saying that back then, Dhawan’s raunchy song was quite a trend and the sassy lyrics helped the film’s buzz go up.
