Back in 2021, during the shooting of the upcoming film ‘Rust’, Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger against cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The news shocked the world as Halyna was pronounced spot dead due to gunshot.
According to the US media, Baldwin was holding the gun at the very time of the unfortunate incident. During investigation, Alec told the police he was working under the assumption that it was just a regular prop gun without bullets. He revealed that it was shocking for him as well that it ended up killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Later in an interview with ABC, Baldwin also stated that he did not pull the trigger, “The trigger wasn’t pulled. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them. Never.”
Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter by the Santa Fe County district attorney. But the charges were dismissed due to lack of evidence by prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis.
Now after 2 years, the case took a new turn. Yesterday, a forensic report concluded that the trigger of the Colt.45 revolver had been sufficiently pulled to cause the Hutchins death accident. Forensic experts Lucien Haag and Mike Haag, who were hired by the State of New Mexico, claimed, “Although Alec Baldwin repeatedly denies pulling the trigger, given the tests, findings and observations reported here, the trigger had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver.”
“This fatal incident was the consequence of the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position followed, at some point, by the pull or rearward depression of the trigger”, they told PEOPLE. The new report read, “It was found to function properly and in accordance with the operational design of original Colt 1873 single-action revolvers.”
“Although the full-cock step on the hammer had been severely damaged, the top of the trigger’s sear was broken off and the bolt (cylinder stop) was also broken” due to the incident. There was no indication of “any modification to the gun,” the report continued.
This new development could again charge Alec Baldwin for the murder of ‘Rust’ cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
