The 32nd Annual Gotham Awards ceremony was held on Monday, November 28 at New York City, where Jennifer Lawrence, Gabrielle Union, Joe Alwyn, Adam Sandler, Timothée Chalamet, Ben Stiller, among several other stars made the night shimmering. Not only with their presence, but also their fashion and looks also grabbed whopping attentions as some wore daring gowns with plunging necklines, while others wore sequins and rhinestones.
However, another striking incident had also captured everyone’s attention and that is Adam Sandler’s hilarious speech, after accepting the tribute award for his last film ‘Hustle’ (2022). The film also marked the actor’s first major step into the award season. No wonder he achieved the award as Adam has perfectly touched our hearts with such brilliant sports drama story in the film.
After accepting the award, Sandler started the speech saying, “I told my daughters Sadie and Sunny, who are 16 and 14, that I didn’t write a speech and they said phrases like, ‘Rude’ and ‘You’re mean’. Then I said daddy’s fucking tired. Daddy works hard, calm down. They were like, ‘Can we write your speech, Daddy? So you got something to say’ and I said absolutely.”
After that, Sandler brought out his typical Southern American accent and started delivering the speech penned by her daughters, “Dear well-dressed dignitaries, highly educated hipsters and various other plus-ones of the Gotham Awards, thank you for giving our daddy, Mr. Adam Sandler, this prestigious lifetime, all-time, primetime G.O.A.T. achievement tribute award.” The speech made the room full of audience break into laughter.
Adam also picked Timothée Chalamet and Ben Stiller and poked fun at them in his speech while explaining why his daughters did not attend the ceremony, “I don’t want to spend the whole night that’s supposed to be about me and my greatness listening to you two newly pubertized buffoons screaming, ‘Where is Timothée Chalamet?’.” He further continued saying that his daughters rather loved to stay at home as they would instead be free to do all the things they can’t do when he’s home, such as eat his Yodels, try out his Spanx, or laugh out loud at Ben Stiller movies.
Although we have no such information whether the speech was actually written by his daughters or did he make it up, but surely it made the night memorable.
