Salim-Sulaiman who composed a couple of songs for films like ‘Kaanchi’, ‘Mardaani’ and ‘Ungli’ in 2014 are back with a full-fledged soundtrack in ‘Wedding Pullav’. As the film is based on the theme of destination weddings, one expects a musical in the offering. If the newly released track ‘Oh Jaaniya’ is any indication, then the composer duo are in good form. Also, four songs, portions of which one got to see in the trailer, came across as promising.
‘Oh Jaaniya’ has Salim-Sulaiman’s stamp all over it and it does remind one of a few songs composed by the duo. But, the song has its own identity and boasts of a mellifluous tune that makes an instant impact and grows on you further with repeated hearings. The arrangements are wonderful and we also hear a bit of the composers’ signature piano notes that arrive unpredictably. The track has many layers to it which come off one after another. It starts with techno beats accompanied by guitar strums and moves to a qawalli-like interlude. The portions sung by Salim Merchant and Shreya Ghoshal are contrasting in nature and that adds to the beauty of the song. Raj Pandit shines in his part too.
‘Wedding Pullav’ marks the debut of Binod Pradhan as a director and going by the video of the song one feels that the veteran cinematographer has a keen eye for visuals. The picturesque locales have been shot beautifully by Gopal Shah and gels beautifully with the mushy song. With ‘Oh Jaaniya’, debutantes Diganth and Anushka Ranjan get a good first song to their credit which is bound to get them noticed by the audience.
