Mark Margolis, a veteran actor known for his roles in ‘Breaking Bad’ (2008) and ‘Better Call Saul’ (2015), died on August 3, 2023, at the age of 83.
He played the iconic drug lord Hector Salamanca in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ and he also had memorable roles in ‘Scarface’ (1983) and ‘The Wrestler’ (2008).
Margolis was born in Philadelphia in 1939 and studied acting under Stella Adler. He began his career on stage and appeared in over 50 off-Broadway plays. He also had roles in more than 60 films, including ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’ (1994).
“He was one of a kind. We won’t see his likes again”, Robert Kolker, Margolis’s manager, said in a statement. “He was a treasured client and a lifelong friend. I was lucky to know him.”
Margolis’s most memorable role was Hector Salamanca, a former drug lord who communicated only through a brass bell in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’. He was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in ‘Breaking Bad’.
Margolis’s death was mourned by his family, friends and fans. He was a talented actor who will be remembered for his memorable roles and his dedication to his craft.
