Recently Germany’s international broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) raised an important question in its talk show, ‘Is Bollywood Sexist?’. The discussion happened after Tata Institute of Social Sciences released a report that stated that in most successful Hindi films, the story was driven by male characters and many hit movies portrayed women in a sexist manner.

Nitu Chandra has made a mark in the industry with films of diverse genres like ‘Garam Masala’ (2005), ‘Traffic Signal’ (2007), ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye’ (2008), ’13B: Fear Has A New Address’ (2009), etc.
After achieving much recognition as an actor, Nitu started her own production house, Champaran Talkies. The film ‘Mithila Makhaan’ (2020) backed by Champaran Talkies, won the prestigious National Award. The film was directed by her brother, Nitin Chandra.
In her debut film ‘Garam Masala’ she played the role of Sweety. The film was a success and it helped her to earn a foothold in the industry. In her second Hindi film, the Madhur Bhandarkar-directorial ‘Traffic Signal’, she outstandingly proved her capability as Rani.
