The legendary Dev Anand is not only famous for his acting skills, but also achieved massive success for his directorials as well. Anand Saab made his directorial debut with ‘Prem Pujari’ in 1970 and since then he gave several hits, generation after generation.
‘Awwal Number’ (1990) is the eleventh directorial film of Dev Anand, where he also starred as DIG Vikram Singh. It has been over three decades since ‘Awwal Number’ was released and Aamir Khan and Ekta Sohini’s chemistry is still fresh among the audience.
It’s been reported that Ekta visited the shooting set of Dev Anand’s tenth directorial ‘Sachche Ka Bol Bala’ (which was almost ready before the release of ‘Awwal Number’) and after seeing Ekta’s charm, Dev Saab gave her the big break in ‘Awwal Number’.
Although ‘Awwal Number’ is a sports action drama and is mainly focused on Cricket, Aamir and Sohini’s coupling remained a hot topic. The ’90s flavour in the romance, the cuteness, the innocence between the duo made the film more captivating.
‘Awwal Number’ is the one and only film where Aamir Khan and Ekta Sohini worked together. Despite their good chemistry as they were seen at several events together for a long time, the duo has not been seen together in any other films.
Another star that starred in ‘Awwal Number’ is Cindy Crawford. Cindy is one of the most successful supermodels from the ’90s in Hollywood. Cindy played the role of the mother of Dev Anand and Aditya Pancholi in the film. Besides modelling, Cindy has also appeared in Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” song in 2014.
‘Awwal Number’ gained much hype back in the ’90s and remained the only solo project where Dev Anand, Aamir Khan and Ekta Sohini appeared together.
