Surendra Kumar Bohra directorial ‘Saajan Ka Ghar’ celebrates its 29th anniversary today. The film, which released on April 29, 1994, which starred Rishi Kapoor and Juhi Chawla in the lead while Deepak Tijori, Anupam Kher, Johny Lever, Kader Khan and Tej Sapru featured in supporting roles.
‘Saajan Ka Ghar’ revolves around Laxmi played by Juhi Chawla, Amar Khanna played by late Rishi Kapoor and Dhanaraj played by Anupam Kher. The movie takes the audiences through the journey of Laxmi as she falls in love with Amar.
‘Saajan Ka Ghar’ was a remake of the Rajasthani film ‘Bai Chali Sasariye’ (1988) and was produced by Roopavati Productions. Its budget was reportedly Rs. 1.75 Crore and it grossed Rs. 3.76 Crore domestically and Rs. 7.22 Crore worldwide. Though it was a semi-hit, it was praised for its story and performances by the lead cast, especially that of Juhi Chawla.
The music, composed by Nadeem Shravan, played a key part in enhancing the film’s appeal. Songs like “Saawan Aaya Baadal Gaye” and “Baabul De Do Dua” became hugely popular.
It was released on the same day as ‘Pyaar Ka Rog’ (1994), starring Sheeba and Ravi Behl. ‘Pyaar Ka Rog’ was not well received by critics and the audiences. Hence, ‘Saajan Ka Ghar’ emerged as a winner in this clash.
