As mentioned in this column last week, ‘Mr. X’ wasn’t expected to take a thunderous start. While an opening in the range of 30%-40% would have been optimal, the footfalls were lesser. Still, looking at the way 2015 is progressing so far, it wasn’t surprising to see audience opting to choose for word of mouth to set in, before deciding to visit theaters. After a 4.5 crore weekend, the film continued to collect on a similar note, hence settling down with a 14 crore weekend. Emraan Hashmi would be keeping his fingers crossed to see how the weekdays unfold for the film.
‘Margarita With A Straw’ got some good all around reviews but that was never going to be good enough from box office perspective. For the film to run, audience word of mouth was of paramount importance. Though this meant that the film did show an escalation in collections, a weekend to the tune of 2 crore leaves a lot to be desired.
As for the third release of the week, ‘Guru Dakshina’, the film couldn’t even find an all-India release and proved to be an all around disaster.
