It’s a huge loss to the entertainment industry as Sapan Sengupta, the popular music director, is no more. He took his last breath yesterday, October 16. Sapan Sengupta was a part of the famous duo composer, Sapan-Jagmohan (Sapan Sengupta and Jagmohan Bakshi) from the ‘60s. They both started their career as playback singers in Bombay Youth Choir.
Sapan-Jagmohan together gave numerous massive Hindi hit songs like “Main Toh Har Mod Par” from the film ‘Chetna’ (1970), “Hum Hai Jahan” from ‘Call Girl’ (1974) and “Are Mera Dil Diwane” from ‘Laal Kothi’ ( 1978) and lots more. The composer duo were one of the most celebrated musicians and had ruled the entertainment industry during the ‘60s to ‘80s era. Most of the works they did were with R.D. Burman and lyricist Naqsh Lyallpuri.
The duo was also famous for songs like “Sajna Gaile Pardes” from ‘Pyari Dulhaniyan’ (1989), “Ghungroo Bandh Liye” from ‘Mujre Ki Shaam’, “Hamko Hai Tumse Pyaar”, “Mirza” and “Jhil Mil Sitaron Se”. Sapan Sengupta and Jagmohan Bakshi are still remembered by today’s generation as fans still cherish these evergreen songs.
The composer duo had worked in sixty one Hindi films, twenty Punjabi films, seven Bengali films and 5 Bhojpuri films and in several TV shows. Sapan Sengupta had retired long back and lived a peaceful life with his wife in Bandra, Mumbai.
