The all three formats all-rounder and two-times World Cup winner, Australian cricketer, Andrew Symonds died today, on May 14 in a car accident in Queensland at the age of 46.
Queensland police announced the news and said the accident occurred in Hervey Range, 50 kilometres far from Townsville on Saturday night, May 14. The car, which Symonds was driving, rolled over. “Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and the sole occupant, however, died of his injuries”, police further added.
Andrew had played as a right-handed, middle order batsman and alternated between medium pace and off-spin bowling. He was also notable for his exceptional fielding skills.
Born in Birmingham, England, Andrew Symonds was an adopted child by his parents, Ken and Barbara and later moved to Australia at a very little age. Andrew made his ODI debut in 1998. But he couldn’t give his best at that time and had played as substitute for few years. Later he cemented his place in ODI during ICC CWC in 2003.
Andrew Symonds had represented Australia from 1998 to 2009 on international level. He made his Test match debut in 2004 during Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka. A lot of controversies were raised that time about Sydmonds’ selection because he had replaced Simon Katich, who had just scored a century in previous series.
Andrew Symonds had played 26 Test matches in his international career and scored 1462 runs and took 24 wickets. He played his last Test match in 2008 against South Africa. He played his last ODI in 2009 against Pakistan. Altogether, he played 198 ODIs in his career and scored 5088 runs with 133 wickets.
Andrew Symonds will always be remembered as one of the fiercest bowlers among all the top all rounders around the world in cricket field.
