Remember that sweet high school boy, Troy Bolton from the film ‘High School Musical’ (2006)? Yes, that actor, Zac Efron has currently portrayed a father’s role in the sci-fi thriller ‘Firestarter’, which released today, May 13.
Recently Zac has been asked about his experience of playing the role of a father by Ellen DeGeneres in her ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’. Zac opened up and shared, “I didn’t think about it all that much and then when we started filming the movie, I had a two-week quarantine and when I got out of quarantine, we started filming that Monday, so it was a pretty quick intro to the film and all of a sudden, I had this daughter in front of me.”
The 34-year-old actor further added saying, “We had a pretty heavy dad-daughter scene right off the bat, and I realised I was drastically underprepared for this part. I didn’t know what I was doing.”
Ellen further asked him if the role ever made him think of having his own kids for which Zac responded, “I think that was a healthy dose to put me off of it for as long as necessary. I have a little bit more growing to do, probably. I don’t know. Not yet. I have a healthy respect for parents, very grateful for them all. I love you so much mom.”
The story of ‘Firestarter’ follows about a married couple, who desperately try to hide their daughter, Charlie, from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for turning fire into a weapon of mass destruction. Her father taught her how to defuse her power, but as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. When a mysterious operative finally finds the family, he tries to seize Charlie once and for all, but she has other plans.
Directed by Keith Thomas, ‘Firestarter’ is adapted from the namesake novel by Stephen King, which was published in 1980. The film stars Zac Efron as Andy MacGee, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Charlie McGee, Sydney Lemmon as Victoria McGee, Kurtwood Smith as Dr. Joseph Wanless.
