William Hurt, who won an Oscar for his film ‘Kiss Of The Spider Woman’ (1985), passed away yesterday on March 13 at the age of 71, just a week before his birthday, which is on March 20, due to natural causes peacefully at his home.
Hurt’s son, Will announced the news to Deadline.com and requested privacy for their family, “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”
William Hurt had also won three Academy Awards and one BAFTA Award for ‘Kiss Of The Spider Woman’ and also won Best Actor Awards at Cannes Film Festival for ‘Children Of A Lesser God’ (1986) and ‘Broadcast News’ (1987). He had also achieved Emmy nomination for ‘Damages’ (2007) and ‘Too Big To Fail’ (2011).
Born in Washington D.C., Hurt began his acting career on stage in the ‘70s. Later he made his grand debut in the entertainment world with Ken Russell’s sci-fi ‘Altered States’ in 1980, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for New Star Of The Year Award.
Hurt remained an active stage actor the whole ‘80s and played in ‘Henry V’, ‘Fifth Of July’, ‘Richard 2’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ dramas. He also received his first Tony Award in 1985 for ‘Hurlyburly’ (1984).
Apart from these films, Willam had also given numerous other prodigious films like ‘The Good Shepherd’ (2006), ‘Noise’ (2006), ‘Into The Wild’ (2007), ‘The Incredible Hulk’ (2008), ‘Robin Hood’ (2010), ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (2016), ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ (2017), ‘Black Widow’ (2021) among others.
